Curtains how long is too long
Is anyone else having this problem? Hi Pat, Having a similar problem — struggling to find curtains inch long. Everywhere stops at 90 …. I want to remodel a second bedroom. I have envisioned full length drapes but the window is not full length. Can I use full length drapes or should I just stick with ones that frame the window?
I have full length in my bedroom, and never gave much thought to it. Full length is fine Ray! Full length also gives a look of greater elegance, which I think would suit your plans for the room being a tranquil meditation space. In my bedroom I have a radiator under my window. Are short curtains that fall just under the window sill okay?
Are shorter curtains still in style? I thought this length would be better than full length because of the radiator. Personally I much prefer short curtains to be just over the sill, rather than sill length — they look more elegant and still give the radiator a chance to work properly!
Hi I am wondering if you can advise me I have just decorated my living room…and I have no curtains up at the moment.. Curtains just passed the window sill just above the raditor? Or curtains just above the floor … I want it to look modern not dated My room is white with a mint wall on the other side and I was thinking mint curtains with a white blind? Or do you think it would be best with mint blind white curtains? Many thanks.
Hi Heidi — two things to help with your planning. First, is this the only radiator in the room and is the heat from it critical in winter? Second, the decision between a blind, or blind with curtains, is really about the look rather than function. A blind on its own is quite modern, but can look a bit stark. Hope this helps with your decision making! Can you please tell me where I can find custom drapes that are 88 inches long and are Fabrics from Sanderson Waterperry Collection.
It seems to be a popular fabric collection, so you should be able to find a maker. Let me know how you get on! We have a large picture window with a ledge at the bottom that extends about 8 inches. Should I stick with curtains that go to the ledge and no further? Hi Rachel — you are right that it does look wrong for a window ledge to be pushing the curtains out half way down. The option if you want full length curtains is to fix the track at the top so that it is at least 8 inches away from the window, so that the curtain fall without bumping into the ledge.
Hi Eve! I think that your idea of putting shears behind the curtain may work. It'll depend on how high off of the ground the curtains hang. Other than taking out the seam and using hooks, you could try lowering the curtain rod. Some curtains have a little top portion above where the rod goes that will add an extra inch or so to the length the curtain will still cover the window but the rod won't be above the top of the window, if that makes sense. So you may be able to get another inch or so.
Otherwise, I would try that seam trick. The are typically finished twice once at the very bottom and once about an inch or two up , and you can check to make sure they are before you snip the seam. Good luck! Hi there. Bought 84 inch length curtains If I put the bracket above window trim, curtains are 4 inches from floor. This is in my bedrooom I have 3 windows. Can get away with putting only 2 brackets on each end lined up with trim Help.
Very stressed about this. Panels are from bed bath ask beyond and they suggested using 3 brackets per window. We will be moving probably in 2 years. Hi Sue! So sorry for your stress! If you have 8 foot ceilings, you may be able to get away with using ceiling mounts, adding curtain ring clips, and then letting the bottom hem out I have done this on blackout curtains and it worked fine.
Then you could support it at the center as well. If you don't like that idea, or if your ceilings are taller than 8 feet, this company makes super strong rods that are reinforced from the inside. Supposedly they can span up to inches without bowing. I'm not sure how much they are, but thought I'd provide it as another options. Third, I think you just mount all three of the supports right above your window frame and use rings and let the bottom hem out.
Last, it looks like they sell tension rods that can span that distance like a shower curtain rod does. The curtains may not be quite as nice looking if you go this route, but it would mean you wouldn't have to put brackets on the trim. Hope you figure something out!! I love buttons! An example of curtains that are way too short! See how these curtains just touch, or graze the floor?
This set of 14 will do the trick though if you only have one window two curtain panels that need to be lengthened. Share Tweet Pin. Wall Colors for Honey Oak Cabinets. Click here to cancel reply. Choose curtain clips that are attached to hooks or rings. Curtain clips have a small alligator clip on the bottom and either rings or hooks on the top. Either style will work—it really just depends on the look you're going for.
On the other hand, using fewer clips might make your curtains look kind of stretched out. We recommend using 9 clips per panel because it makes the spacing super easy! Check the packaging or online product listing to see how much weight each clip can support.
Fold the top of the curtain over so the curtains are the right length. Measure the length you want your curtains to be, then fold them over from the top. Make sure the fold goes toward the back of the curtain. Otherwise, the tabs might be visible through the curtain when the sun shines through.
Clamp the curtain clips onto the fold so they're evenly spaced. If you're using 9 clips per panel, you don't have to do any measuring to make sure the clips are spaced perfectly. Start by placing a clip on either end of the curtains, then another right in the center.
Add 1 more clip exactly halfway between the leftmost clip and the center, then 1 halfway between the middle and the right. You should have 5 total now. Place each of the remaining clips exactly halfway between the ones already in place, for a total of 9! Otherwise, some parts of your curtains will be too taut, while others will sag. Slide the rings or hooks onto the curtain rod.
If you're using rings, feed the rod through each ring individually, then mount the rod on brackets. If your clips are attached to hooks, just slide each hook over the curtain rod—you don't need to take the rod down. Method 2. Read the care label for ironing instructions. Some synthetic fabrics will melt if you iron them, while other materials require low heat so they don't get burned. If the tag doesn't specifically say anything about ironing, look for a symbol that looks like an iron—or sort of like the lowercase "a" on a computer keyboard.
If you see: [8] X Research source A plain symbol—it's safe to use any heat setting on your iron. A symbol with 1 dot—only use the lowest heat setting. A symbol with 2 dots—use medium heat. A symbol with 3 dots—use the highest heat setting. A symbol with an X—do not iron this fabric.
Try creating a rod pocket or using curtain clips to adjust the length, instead. Fold the bottom of the curtains under so they're the right length. There are two ways you can do this.
The easiest way is to hang the curtains, then fold the bottoms under so they just graze the floor. However, you can also measure the length from the top of the curtain rod to the floor, then measure down from the top of the curtains.
Just be sure to fold the fabric under, or toward the back of the curtains. Also, if the curtains will be hanging from clips or hooks, be sure to account for that.
For curtains that are way too long, you may have a lot of excess fabric left. You can trim this extra material at the end, but if you don't want to cut the curtains, make 2 or 3 folds so the excess material is tucked in neatly. Pin the hem into place. As you fold the curtains under, slide straight pins horizontally through the fabric to secure it. You'll take these pins out later, so don't worry if they show through the front of the curtains.
If you're working by measurements, measure from the top down in several spots along the curtain's width to make sure the length is even—don't work from the bottom up! If you're worried about the pins falling out, use safety pins instead of straight pins.
Iron the fold to create a crease, removing pins as you go.
