Why is maokai a good jungler

You'll have another 50 gold after buying the gold Doran's Shield. Take this in an easier lane against weak early game champions. This item allows you to punish them harder. Your trades become stronger and you have less mana struggle. Great against Malphite or Jax. You'll have another gold after buying the gold Doran's Ring. I recommend buying 2 Health Potion s with it to offer some much needed sustain. Maokai has a decent amount of AoE damage, allowing him to benefit a lot from the drain effect from Hunter's Talisman.

The passive mana regen is also great on him. Hunter's Talisman is a much better choice than Hunter's Machete as Maokai isn't going to auto attack that much. I just prefer Refillable Potion as it's useful through the whole game. Relic Shield is the preferred starting item on support Maokai. Relic Shield allows you to execute a minion below a certain threshold with your auto attacks. You and the closest ally get the full gold.

But beware: this can only occur once in a while. You should prioritize cannon minions or melee minions if you really have to as they give the most gold. With your remaining gold you should buy 2 Health Potion s.

As a melee champion botlane, Maokai might get poked a lot. The potions help him stay in lane longer. You don't want to leave your ADC alone for too long. Maokai doesn't have the best waveclear. That's why Sunfire Aegis , besides its great stats, is a core item on Maokai. There is also a second part to the constant DPS passive. Every 12s, your next immobilizing attack will deal bonus AoE damage, scaling with bonus HP!

It can be activated by all of your abilities except for Sapling Toss , so it synergizes greatly with Maokai. Build this first against an AD opponent, otherwise build it as second or third item. This is simply the best item on Maokai.

His passive gets a huge boost with this so always get this first against any AP opponent. Even when playing against teams with little Magic Damage, this item is useful in almost every game, as it also grants health and CDR. The Standard enchantment on every jungling tank. Great for scaling into late game along with Sap Magic 's healing.

Besides its decent stats - armor, HP, mana and CDR - has Turbo Chemtank also a fantastic active: extra movement speed towards enemy champions and a slow when you reach them.

Great for ganking. When you use the Predator setup, you shouldn't buy this as your keystone fulfills the same niche and there are better options available stat-wise. This is simply the best item on Maokai because of the boost Sap Magic gets.

A must have. This is the upgrade of Relic Shield and the core item in any build for support Maokai. By collecting gold with Relic Shield , your item will eventually transform into Targon's Buckler and later into Bulwark of the Mountain , granting better stats.

It allows you to place up to 3 stealth wards at a time, super valuable for a support who is supposed to maintain vision control. Maokai excels in roams and ganks, which you can benefit from a lot as support. Mobility Boots play a crucial part in this, allowing Maokai to rapidly travel over the map for a cheap price.

Try to get it as early as possible. An all round good armor item. It has a passive which generates stacks while moving. Those stacks grant you movement speed. At stacks, your first auto attack deals bonus physical damage and gives a slow. It's useful for roaming and moving around the map faster.

Randuin's Omen is a good anti-ADC item. It has a passive which slows attack speed, an active with a slow and a passive which reduces the damage you receive from critical strikes. The stats are also pretty good for its price, making it a really good item into almost any AD comp.

Another item against AD champions, this item reflects damage from auto attacks and inflicts grievous wounds on the attacker. Because of the grievous wounds, it is an item to counter self healers. Their healing will be reduced by Thornmail. Build it vs red Kayn Rhaast , Aatrox and other Lifesteal building champions. The passive isn't bad either, reducing the attack speed of nearby enemies. This item is the offensive counterpart of Frozen Heart.

It has the spellblade passive, making it quite useful as you are looking to land some auto attacks between your spell casts to activate Sap Magic. A great item when ahead against an AD laner or an AD comp. A good MR item, especially against mages with spammable abilities or DoT abilities. Adaptive Helm 's passive reduces the subsequent magic damage you'll receive from a certain spell or effect. Maokai 's abilities are all magic and in teamfights, you will always be in the middle of the fight, so your AP carries can deal more damage too.

It's also worth to mention that Bami's Cinder 's passive deals more damage when combined with Abyssal Mask. So if you need more MR after building Spirit Visage go for this. Or if your APC is fed because of the passive. One of my favorite items, Gargoyle Stoneplate shines in teamfights and skirmishes. The 40 armor and MR might not seem much, but once you get into a fight with at least 3 enemies, you'll get another 40 resistances.

It also has an active that you can use while getting focused, as it will increase your HP for a few seconds, but it decreases your damage in trade off. Warmog's Armor is pretty good if you are going full tank. You can just keep on healing after teamfights and the strength of Sap Magic gets a huge boost with the insane amount of HP Warmog's Armor provides.

It can also be used to counter champions with a lot of true damage, like Cho'Gath 's or Fiora 's ult. Locket of the Iron Solari is besides the decent stats a teamfight-oriented utility item because of the shield it offers for you and nearby allied champions. Get this when you are the main engage on your team and you need the extra MS and slow to lock down a high-priority target. Rod of Ages is a great AP item on Maokai. It becomes even better after 10 minutes when you have all of your stacks.

If you want to be a lane bully, buy this. Just remember to buy it early, to benefit as much as possible from it. But you should only buy it in easy matchups toplane when getting an early kill or a high CS advantage. Zhonya's can always be useful. The active gives you the possibility to make outplays or save yourself. An item that is both offensive because of the AP and defensive armor and active. Only build it when really ahead. It also has a spellshield passive which blocks the first enemy ability.

But it only recharges after taking no champion damage for 40s. Only build it when ahead. This item synergizes very well with Maokai 's abilities. The damage of the burn passive is doubled when the enemie's movement is impaired. It also makes you deal more damage the longer you are in combat. Not bad for teamfights or long skirmishes. One of the best snowballing options for Maokai. You can bind this item to an ally usually your ADC to use the effect.

When you cast Nature's Grasp near the bound ally a frost storm surrounds you that slows enemies, while the bound allies' auto attacks burn their targets. And there is even more. Auto attacking a burning enemy ignites your frost storm, dealing bonus damage and slowing them even more. Another reason to only use it with your ranged carry, as they usually have high enough DPS to outheal the damage they might take.

Decent for jungle or support, as you'll get many opportunities to roam the map to make plays, but not worth for toplane, as you'll have less MS most of the time because you'll be in combat more frequently.

If the enemy has Bami's Cinder and you can Twisted Advance to him while under turret, he'll immediately gets turret aggro. Cons - Getting low while freezing the wave means you are in an ideal position for the enemy jungler to dive you. Cons - Pushing the wave leaves you vulnerable to ganks. Make sure to always ward. Especially dangerous against enemies with a lot of CC.

At the start of the game, you will look to farm as much as possibe with Maokai. His early game is pretty weak, so in most matchup's I won't recommend to play aggressively. But if you have a strong early game jungler, an early gank can succeed easily. After your first back, when you bought a defensive item against your lane opponent, you will be looking to poke and harass the enemy laner a bit, to test if you can take him on or not.

But only do this if you are sure the enemy jungler isn't near. Post-6, you can play more aggressive. Poke, deny your opponent's CS and look for a chance to all-in, if you are confident you can finish him off though. When the enemy jungler ganks, fall back to your turret. You can use your ult to disengage too, if you have to. The most important thing is to keep farming and finish your first items.

After the laning phase has ended and people start leaving their lane to group, you should look to group and teamfight as well instead of splitpushing. With Maokai , your team has a teamfight God that is capable of both engaging and peeling. If you play it well, you should be able to win most teamfights. Always look to take objectives where possible. They benefit the team a lot more than a few kills. The playstyle of a support can depend on the ADC you are appointed to.

When your ADC has a strong early game, like Draven , Lucian or Miss Fortune , you might want to look for opportunities to engage and all-in. Also a super important part of the support playstyle is warding a lot to control the map and to keep the ADC safe against ganks. Also they hunt in packs. Keep away from bushes and W his CC. Black Cleaver first is good here. Tree is falling sooner or later. You won't really kill him, but he will also not be able to kill you once you got spirit visage.

Once again feel blessed Summoner. Don't even worry. Anyway, at 1 item you win. He is way too tanky and you are forced to go Trinity Force in order to keep trading because you run out of Mana quicker. Black Cleaver does not really work here as you will run out of Mana too quickly during Lane Phase, but it'll be good out of Laning Phase. Do not stand close to tower as he can Q you into tower and then R for a easy kill. You can also get easily ganked so watch out for that.

I'd say just keep pressure on him so he can't TP gank and play for farm. He mainly builds tank so he won't deal that much damage to you. If you fling him he'll just W Q you and win the trade, he has super high sustain so whittling him down isn't an option, his R allows him to be relevant in teamfights even if you fling him away from your team.

Your W cancels his W. Buy an early Executioners Calling because he heals alot from his passive. Farm up and wait for teamfights and you will be much more useful. Try to draw while laning because why don't have a chance to dominate the lane.

Pantheon Guide by bolun by bolun Pantheon Player. He sustains more than you can harm him try to farm and shove the wave and look for roams! Ex-Dia Riven Top Agro Lissandra top lane S11 by ineptpineapple Lissandra Player. Your only hope is to play under tower at all costs. Kennenenenen Patch Really boring lane. If you W his stun correctly, you'll get easy trades off of him. After that it will be nearly impossible to kill him.

Just ignore him as his damage is also very low. He is pretty much a threat in teamfights, not in 1v1. Save your CC for after he uses his Q knockback and pull him back in.

He can use his W to dodge your Q although in a 1v1 he should still not have enough damage to kill you. He has great gank setup though so be very wary of jungle ganks. W or E his Q so he can't disengage. Be wary of ganks as this is pretty much the only way for Mao to "win" this lane. His teamfight impact is huge however, so hope that your botlane did not int. Just be aware of where he puts his saplings and you should be fine.

Don't step too close for his twisted advance and abuse your range advantage. Try to poke at him and you can start to go after him after you get your R. Try not to push up too hard or else he'll bring you under tower and maybe a jungler will appear out of nowhere.

An Aatrox guide for a bronze 4 kid by Leukasdf Aatrox Player. Try to stay away from the bushes because most likely he will have put 1 or 2 of his E's in there. Early game is the time to try and trade with him to make an all-in possible bit later. If he gets too tanky i would suggest go for a bork it will help you take bad trades and kill him too. Also his R is blockable with your W. Freeze against him because he is a tank and he ain't gonna win extended trades. When his little treefriends run at you, just run away.

You can easily bait them. Save your shield for his untargatable dash thing. Flash when necessary to avoid being set up.

He outscales you later and seemingly sticks on you like glue later in the game with the short CD of his W which sets up a sequence of CC which chains you to a single spot and rendering you useless. However, you can absolutely take over the laning phase against him in a 1v1 scenario with his sustain lacking until he gets Spirit Visage. With his early game being his weakest point, taking advantage of his low damage early on allows you to outduel him and possibly stall him off his items until much later on in the game which isn't feasibly reliable for him in the fast paced meta we are currently in.

It's a little difficult to play into this matchup later on but it's generally not a one-sided matchup. Notice that his Q can counter your E if timed correctly. Watchout for ganks since he can pin you down for his jungler. The amount of healing and CC he has is enough to kill you many times over.

On-hit or tank. Every One's a Treasure by wolfclaw Teemo Player. You can't lose trades if you don't get hit by empowered saplings, so play away from the bushes and you win easily. Camille Toplane Guide If you play safe, he won't be able to do much.

In depth Irelia guide by Frostyfps Irelia Player. Cpot and Dshield are both fine. Just farm and outscale him. Or wait for jungle ganks and all in with your ulti. Urgot to be tilted by Delvoid Urgot Player.

Even if you're Rhaast he can outheal you in the right situation, so get Grievous Wounds and Spirit Visage as soon as possible. Top lane Kayn guide [ His ult can give a massively long root if you aren't careful, and his E can be used for a quick root if just jungler is close.

He can then proceed to Q you towards the jungler. He will rush bramble most likely just like any other tank match up, he heals as well so grab exe, he becomes a problem later. His hop onto you is range and his Q displacement is range. So playing at your max range for the full lane leaves him nothing to do but attempt to farm. That is the only reason it is a matchup. Manamune is great for scaling but if you dont cs well it stops your first item spike by a huge amount.

Going Black Cleaver is a sager option that allows you to stay in your lane and keep maokai there too. Still hardly advice getting at least Cleaver, but more so both Cleaver and Serylda. Really hard to deal with, go tanky and scale. His passive will render your poke game moot.

Play around his mana bar when looking for trades because his abilities cost him a lot. Your W doesn't work on his W.

Remeber that his Q outranges yours so be cautious. This is one of the most realistic lanes that you can ever have as a tiny threat to Nasus. Maokai simply lacks of Mana sustain and Damage to outpoke Nasus, farm behind your minions and look to predict his Q to reduce his damage and once you get lvl 6 and Sheen he can't stop you unless he has his jungler but with the Conqueror setup, you can pretty much do 1v2's. Later on to the game you should have kills from laning phase and look to either teamfight if the enemy team has little CC, or look to setup a splitpush in case they have a lot of CC.

This lane you will only lose it if you are either trolling or you got permaganked. Poke with Q and save your E2 for after he has used his Q. Keep vision up since Maokai has a ton of CC so he can setup ganks quite easily. You can poke him and he doesn't have much kill potential, but he isn't easy to kill. He's probably the best tank in the game so it will be very hard to win the lane and give your lead from the Top Lane. Dont walk near bushes, his saplings will kill you quickly.

Get PTA and start Cull. Focus on farm. D1 OTP. Long sword refillable potion start. The biggest thing about maokai matchup is sticking onto him with his ways of disengaging with his Q. Maokai can actually cancel tryndamere's spin with his Q knockup if he times it correctly, so you need to always look to start trades with an auto attack or wait until he q's minions to look to spin on him. Make sure that if you are doing an extended trade that you move your character in between auto attacks to stay between maokai and his escape path usually his turret.

Maokai wants to take short trades with you, but Tryndamere wants the long trades. So make sure when you pressure him that you are manipulating your wave so that it is in a position where you have plenty of room to run him down.

When you dive a Maokai after getting him low enough, make sure that you save your spin to stick onto him rather then just for damage. Always start a dive off with an auto attack if its possible that way you can save your spin to better stick onto your opponent. In the mid-late game Maokai gets really tanky, but on the splitpush if he is overextended past his turret you can still run him down.

Maokai usually won't have enough damage to threaten a 1v1 solo kill against tryndamere. If you cannot dive maokai, use your mobility to outrotate him and look for spots to flank his team after pushing him in. If he plays well with his jungler, you will have a tough lane since they can always dive u for free.

Rush executioner's blade and get some good trades against him, try to force him out of lane, because he'll outscale with or without the gold. Try poking! Don't enter bushes, respect his dash thing, your W does NOT stop it. His saplings can kill your ghouls quite easily, and it's very, very hard to kill him regardless.

While he doesn't have much kill pressure on you, you don't have any on him. Just chill and wait until Trinity Force. Use your W only if he cant W you to dodge it and its ez. Buy executioners eventually. Take MR. Do not walk into the toplane bushes so you avoid his e and you should win.

Be careful about them and let your Jungler know about their location beforehand. Maokai can tank up a lot of damage and then heal it back up with his Passive. After his first back, take a good look at which item he has taken as it can allow him to win extended skirmishes with ease. If he all-ins you, CC him immediately and then back off after landing whatever amount of return damage which you can possibly land. You can predict his Q with prarry which isn't that hard but you can also prarry his W if he goes for a trade which should be easy.

At lvl 6 u have more pressure on him and can kill him easily. If u cant kill him just buy tiamat, push lane and roam other lanes. His Q and W are what you have to watch out for in this matchup. It's why W into 3rd Q is a really important combo in this matchup. If you don't 3rd Q immediately after your W, then he can use either his W to cancel the damage and knock up which means another auto of your 3rd Q, or he can knock you out of your animation with Q and disengage.

More information found below. He has to get close to you to attack and his saplings got nerfed so don't do nearly as much damage. He will eventually become extremely tanky and have an unreasonable amount of cc so if you get ahead don't get cocky. As Yorick, you should never have a problem to take him down, but don't go under his turret as he can root you in place and you will easily die then. Teemo apenas basico. Doesn't matter, sun rules all! Rush morelo and punish him early game.

Flame Spitter by Delvoid Rumble Player. Early is possible, but overall just dont get into this matchup without understanding you'll be in the dirt under your tower if he gets ahead. His early is somewhat strong, but your damage can out trade enough to secure a execute once you reach 6.

On highest elo he is almost unbeatable for you but without as much pressure to deny your CS as extreme thread champs, In lower ones you can all in him lvls and you should be fine after 6 if he doesn't stack too much armour or buy black cleaver don't do it if no one else is tanky though.

Avoid trades in lvls , his Q is too strong punishment. Try to jump on him with E everytime he uses Q, otherwise he can use it to disengage if he doesn't just melt him and it's free game , try to bait him away from bushes and do get yourself cheesed into them by his Q. Keep good vision because he set up ganks extremely good. You can just proxy farm laning phase and neither of you are going to come out on top unless he's bad. I marked it as easy because as long as you don't try anything stupid you won't lose.

Kitable in lane but be careful of his W. Can't solokill him in later laning. Kiteable in lategame. So take action on cd's and fight him with items. Wukong gets damaged, Maokai flexes lvl 5. Hes more of a MR tank than armour but can easily transition into armour if necesary. Maokai is no threats at all and just waited to be killed in lane.

Only things to remember is to dodge his Q and thats the only burst and don't stand to close. You rather let it slow you than knocks up for one second. He can set up ganks decently well too, and if you are not careful he can whittle you down without you even noticing. Nexus Blitz Data. Poro King Data. Odyssey Data. All Regions. North America.
